A Journey of Resilience and Love
Black Boots is a story about a young woman coming of age while living with the often hidden — but always lurking — presence of a chronic illness. As Goldie navigates loss, love, and self-discovery, she travels through Europe, Florida, and the back roads of New England, encountering a vivid cast of characters who shape her along the way.
Woven throughout is the gradual and relentless presence of Multiple Sclerosis: how it shadows ordinary moments, how it changes plans, and how — against all odds — Goldie finds a way to not just survive, but to thrive. Beautifully written and deeply human, this is more than a memoir of illness. It is a portrait of the enduring power of community, love, and an unbreakable spirit.
"She speaks from the heart and uses powerful imagery to convey what she was experiencing as the disease progressed. I was in awe of her tenacity and positive outlook."
"What makes it special is the vibrancy of the characters and their experiences. The book can easily be read in a day and will leave you feeling more compassionate."
"A wonderful message about how she struggled but found a way to thrive. Dedicated to every person battling a chronic illness — it will resonate deeply."

Andrea M. Erickson is an author whose writing draws from the full spectrum of lived experience — joy and grief, connection and solitude, illness and resilience. Her work is grounded in honesty and animated by a deep belief in the power of story to build bridges between people.
In Black Boots: A Journey of Resilience and Love, Andrea draws on her own experience with Multiple Sclerosis to craft a narrative that is at once deeply personal and universally human. Her protagonist Goldie's journey across continents and through heartbreak mirrors the kind of courage that quiet, ordinary people demonstrate every day — without recognition or fanfare.
Andrea's writing is dedicated to everyone who has ever faced an invisible battle, and to the friends, partners, and communities who show up anyway — the ones who make resilience possible.
Andrea was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and that experience is woven into the heart of Black Boots. MS is an unpredictable, often invisible disease of the central nervous system — and Andrea has channeled her journey into a story of hope, community, and the enduring power of love.

From the Author
Thank you for being here. Every reader who picks up Black Boots becomes part of Goldie's story — and mine. I wrote this book because I needed to make sense of something enormous, and because I believed — even in the hardest moments — that stories have the power to heal. I'm grateful, more than words can say, that you found your way to these pages.
